• Kendall Jenner certainly brought her fashion A-game to the Met Gala, as one does.
  • But there's one thing that no one could have ever predicted: affordable makeup. Kendall’s Met Gala look was created using exclusively L’Oréal Paris products that are all under $20.
  • “The inspiration for Kendall’s makeup was pulled from mod ’70s makeup with an emphasis on the eyes,” shared celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips.

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Kendall Jenner isn’t afraid to wear something unexpected to the Met Gala. Remember when she showed up last year without eyebrows? But this year, Kendall wore something that no one predicted: affordable makeup.

That’s right! While Kim wore Makeup by Mario and Kylie wore (surprise, surprise) Kylie Cosmetics, Kendall’s Met Gala makeup look was created using exclusively L’Oréal Paris products that are all under $20—including the infamous Mascaragate mascara and Lumi Glotion that TikTok loves.

“The inspiration for Kendall’s makeup was pulled from mod ’70s makeup with an emphasis on the eyes. Bold lashes to complement the upper and lower lash lines with a classic winged liner,” shared celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips in a press release, who partnered with the brand for Kendall’s red carpet beat.

Prior to applying foundation, Phillips used her signature underpainting technique to highlight under Kendall’s eyes with L’Oréal Paris’s Infallible Full Wear Concealer and contoured along her cheekbones and jawline using L’Oréal Paris’s Age Perfect 4-in-1 Tinted Balm. After blending, she buffed on the liquid Infallible Foundation and set Kendall’s skin with a light layer of the powder version.

To sculpt the supermodel’s cheekbones, Phillips used the Medium shade of L’Oréal Paris’s Infallible Soft Matte Bronzer. Then she dabbed L’Oréal’s TikTok-famous Glotion on the high points of Kendall’s face for a luminous glow that won’t look shiny in photos. And if Bad Bunny’s exposed back didn’t already have Kendall blushing, L’Oréal Paris’s True Match Blush in the shade Tender Rose certainly did!

But truth be told, Kendall’s 2023 Met Gala makeup look was all about the eyes. “I started off by using a neutral brown eyeshadow from L’Oréal Paris La Palette Nude in the crease and under the eye,” shared Phillips. “Under the eye, I used a darker chocolate shade on the outer corners and flicked it out. Then the middle of the two wings, I used the lightest shade in the palette to emphasize the wings and elongate the eye.” A flick of L’Oréal Paris’s Infallible Grip Liner and a coat of the viral Telescopic Lift Mascara (yes, the #Mascaragate one), and voilà.

To complement Kendall’s subtle smokey eye, Phillips opted for “a natural pouty lip” created using L’Oréal Paris’s Colour Riche Lip Liner in Au Naturale and Colour Riche Intense Volume Matte Lipstick in Le Nude Admirable. And the finishing touch: a few faux freckles using the Infallible Gel Mechanical Liner in Brown Denim.

You can find all these Kendall Jenner–approved L’Oréal products and more at LOrealParisUSA.com. And the best part is, everything her makeup artist Mary Phillips used is under $20—far less than a ticket to this year’s event!
