When everything is going haywire, you want a Virgo around. That may sound cliché, but it’s just true! The bear of the zodiac, is one of—if not the most—capable sign in the zodiac, says Narayana Montúfar, senior astrologer at Horoscope.com and Astrology.com and author of Moon Signs: Unlock Your Inner Luminary Power.

"As the only earth sign ruled by Mercury, Virgo marries the practical vibes from this grounding element with the mental acuity from the planet that rules our communication and thought process," says Montúfar. "It’s in this unique combination where Virgo finds its brilliance and special gift."

This sign just kills it on the reg, so it's kinda not surprising that Virgo season, which runs from August 23 through September 22, has the same back-to-school, this-is-going-to-be-my-year energy that Virgos exude all. year. long.

And while you might walk around feeling like a goddess every day (kudos to your confidence, lady), when you’re a Virgo, you actually ~are~ a goddess, astrologically speaking. This sign is tied to the mythological agricultural Greek goddess Demeter, which is honestly just pretty dope. I mean, Beyoncé is a Virgo. Enough said!

Caveat alert: Your Sun sign doesn’t determine everything about your personality, from an astrological perspective—you still have to consider your natal and progressed charts, your Moon sign, and your Saturn return, too. That said, it still plays a major role in influencing how you think and act every day.

If your Sun sign is Virgo, you're likely thoughtful, logical, and supportive. “Virgos are very analytical, pragmatic, and methodical people,” says astrologer Lisa Stardust, author of The Love Deck: 70 Cards to Ignite Attraction, Passion, and Romance. “They think things through really slowly and cautiously, which means that they are the best investigators.”

If you’ve been a Virgo since the beginning of your existence, you (and everyone in your orbit) are probably familiar with those major personality traits. But every zodiac sign contains multitudes, from common characteristics to compatibility. Here’s everything you need to know about what it means to be on Team V, according to professional astrologers.

1. You’re amazing at DIY.

You’re basically the Joanna Gaines of the zodiac: You can look at something and instantly know how to make it better, whether it’s fixing up your apartment, creating new tie-dye patterns for your clothes, or tweaking at-home workouts to max out your fitness, says Donna Page, a certified astrologer in Atlanta.

If you know there’s room for improvement, you’re so there. After all, Virgos are famously analytical, productive, and clairvoyant when it comes to tasks and to-dos—they see what is needed from a distance and instantly jump into action.

2. You’re a total workhorse.

You get sh*t done, plain and simple. Your boss—and pretty much everyone at work—knows that you’ll show up and mic drop any project that needs to be tackled, Page says. Also, you’ll be incredibly efficient in the process. So… you’re pretty much a dream employee. Congrats!

3. You like your routine.

You’ve got your regular ~thing~ going on, and you wanna keep it that way. Maybe you like to have coffee, work out, and then shower before work, or maybe you’re really into loading up the dishwasher your way. Whatever it is, you like to do things a certain way, and you’re not impressed when someone tries to mess with your formula, explains Page. A word to the wise: Just let Virgo do their thing.

4. You’re kinda-totally a perfectionist.

For the record, perfectionism isn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, you just want things to be as awesome as possible. So, you have zero issues speaking up if you feel like your S.O. isn’t putting as much effort as they could into your relationship, or your coworker makes a glaring typo on a project you partnered up on. Just keep in mind that this can come off as critical sometimes, Page cautions, even when you have the best of intentions.

5. You’re really helpful.

You love to see other people succeed, and you’re all about doing whatever you can to help that happen. Got a buddy who needs to move? You’ll show up early with coffee. Notice your sister has been struggling to balance new parenthood, her job, and her mental health? You’ll swing by and get to the bottom of what she needs. Basically, you're happiest when you can lend a helping hand. Everyone needs a friend like you, TBH.

6. Your health is a top priority.

Because of their ties to Greek mythology and goddesses, Virgos tend to be very health conscious. If you know a Virgo, chances are they have a very specific idea of what works for their mind-body connection—and just like their routine, they STICK TO IT.

"Virgo is one of the signs that cares the most about wellness and holistic living," says Montúfar. "Very often, natives from this sign spend time researching healthy food, exercise, and methods that can help them live their best lives. For this reason, many Virgos end up working in the holistic, wellness, as well as the medical field."

Virgo in the Workplace

Given how helpful, focused, and creative Virgos are, is it really a surprise that they’re also some of the best coworkers, bosses, and employees? They’re especially skilled at any kind of detail-focused, administrative work, says Stardust. “They love to organize and they love to file. In the workplace, they’re probably going to be the executive assistant, the secretary—the power behind the throne who gets things organized,” she says, adding, “They’re always going to be the people with A+ presentations at work.” Hear that, Virgo? Maybe it’s time to go for that promotion.

Virgo in the Bedroom

Virgos are known for being logical, organized, and hyper-analytical, which might not sound like inherently sexy traits. But the so-called virgin of the zodiac is actually pretty creative and spontaneous when it comes to sex. “Virgos are one of the kinkiest signs. They’re an earth sign and they’re ruled by Mercury, so they’re down to try anything,” Stardust says. “As long as it’s in a clean room!”

Virgo Modality Category

If you’re a Virgo, you’re a mutable sign. In the most literal sense, this means you were born at the end of a season, like fellow mutable signs Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Personality-wise, however, astrologers say that mutable signs tend to be flexible, adaptable, and willing to roll with the punches, especially during times of transition.

This might sound at odds with Virgo’s type-A personality, but think about it: The end of summer and start of autumn is Virgo’s time to shine. While everyone else is mourning their last beach weekends and putting away their swimsuits, Virgos are already preparing for what comes next. And if something doesn’t go according to plan, they might stress out for a second, but they’re guaranteed to use their unparalleled problem-solving skills and find a solution ASAP.

Virgo Natural Element Sign

Like Capricorns and Taureans, Virgos are earth signs, meaning they’re super smart, goal-oriented, and grounded in reality. Each Earth sign is a little different—Taurus is known for being stubborn and even rebellious, and Capricorn is the zodiac’s leader and resident intellectual—but all three share an undeniable sense of ambition, focus, and maturity.

Virgo Sign Compatibility

Because of all those similarities, Virgos tend to get along well with other Earth signs, says Stardust, adding that Virgos and Scorpios also make a sexy match. But Virgo’s most compatible partner might be Gemini, another sign ruled by Mercury.

“They both understand where the other is coming from, which means that they can have a lot of conversations without judgment,” Stardust says. “Virgo laughs at the stories that Gemini tells them—Gemini’s more of a trickster than Virgo is. And Gemini always goes to Virgo for advice.”

When it comes to choosing a partner, Virgos can be pretty selective. They need to feel really comfortable with someone in order to make things official, and they value honesty and communication, says Stardust. But if you do end up with a Virgo S.O. or best friend, consider yourself lucky.

“Virgos are really reliable, and if you’re looking for a good friend to cry upon, they’re extremely patient,” says Stardust. “And they can be really sympathetic, contrary to popular belief, and help you understand yourself on a deeper level.”

In other words, if you've got a Virgo in your life, take this as a sign to go show 'em some appreciation. And if you don't have one of these ride-or-dies, it might be time to change that.
